On Retreat by Carol Roselle 2010

DEAFENING SILENCE
Hours and hours of silence
Sitting on zafus and zabatans
Shawls soft draped over shoulders
Colors cascading down and surrounding
Buddha knows smile
What do you know Buddha?
What do I know?
Where is that knowledge held within my being?
Where is the key? Who holds it?

Within the silence are millions of spoken words
That no eye can see no ear can hear.
Laying in bed drifting off
Energy of the night
Alive

In the quietness and stillness
Hear a leaf separate from the branch it once clung to.
I peek through the window
Out of the corner of my eye I see it as if to validate the separation
The leaf is Eurydice, I am Orpheus
I lose sight

the swirling spinning entity
to the ground with a loud thump.
The sound ripples out into the cosmos
A stirring in my heart
A message of change

Trees breathing in and out.
Seas of grass wind kissed
A film like substance I can touch it with my being
I touch it with the my finger of my heart
It moves it is alive.
What would happen if I could pierce it?
What would be on the other side?

Eating in silence, forks scraping the plates
Like finger nails on a chalk board.
Old faces morph into children such beauty and innocence
They are all my BELOVED!!!!
